Juli-Treffen / July Meeting - Circles/Curves (7)

Die Inspiration für Elaines Quilt kam vom Buch "Quilt Improv: Incredible Quilts from Everyday Inspirations" von der britischen Quilterin und Stoffdesignerin Lucie Summers (http://blu-shed.blogspot.de/).

The inspiration for Elaine's quilt came from the book "Quilt Improv: Incredible Quilts from Everyday Inspirations" by British quilter and fabric designer Lucie Summers (http://blu-shed.blogspot.de/).

Uschi tried out different ideas: (1) batik circles hand-appliquéd onto a sand-coloured woolen fabric - inspired by the floor of Berlin's Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (different-sized, slightly raised circles arranged close together on a matte-finish base).

Und hier ein Bild des Original-Fußbodens:

And here's a picture of the actual floor:

(2) In contrast to (1), the circles here were intended to be slightly raised, but flat-topped. Uschi used iron-on Decovil to get the desired look. She sewed the circles onto small squares, which she then had to sew together. She said it wasn't as easy as she originally thought - that's why she had to arrange the circles in a geometric form.

(3) Two-coloured circles, sewn onto the background fabric through the middle only, giving a three-dimensional effect, as if hanging on a thread.

Deb (in America) sent us this photograph of her WIP combining shirtings with a medium-grey solid.
